Christmas time is really special. It’s time for forgiving, rejoicing and gathering together around the Christmas table. It is also time for sending our relatives and friends special wishes and as we know there are plenty of ways of doing it. Christmas card is a greeting card which is sent during a period preceding Christmas Eve. Most of cards comprise of wishes which go like: “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.

Some cards are more religious and they contain pictures of Holly Mary, the Christ Child, Joseph and other christian symbols. There are also those which are totally different and represent some non-religious themes and symbols like e.g. Christmas tree, reindeer, Santa Claus and a lot of Christmas boxes with special presents for both children and grown-ups.

There are a lot of types of Christmas cards. Many charity organizations producea lot of them so as to collect money for the needy. The UNICEF is believed to be the largest of such organizations which is involved in Christmas card programme. It’s worth mentioning that the first such project was initiated in 1949.

Nowadays we can notice that traditional cards are simply replaced with those electronic and e.g. we are rather more willing to send an interactive wedding card than the traditional one, not mentioning that which we made on our own. Yes,  handmade cards are extremely original way of expressing our wishes to others. During the 19th century many families were forced to make their own cards because of financial difficulties and what is more, it gained such a huge artistic and sentimental value that some of these cards are still kept in museums. For sure everyone would be pleased to receive such a card.

Unfortunately, traditional cards for birthday, anniversary and especially Christmas are replaced with up-to-date birthday e-cards, anniversary flash cards and interactive Christmas cards. Is it okay? Is it the right thing to happen? This questions are difficult but many think that sooner or later we’ll all come to the conclusion that modern electronic e-cards are only a short-lasting fad.
